Lucy O’Doherty
Lucy O’Doherty is an early-career artist who works with oil paint and chalk pastels to create dreamlike interpretations of isolated dwellings, landscapes and vacant interiors. Recalling day dreams and images from her memory, O’Doherty often focuses on moments of transition, such as twilight or dusk, when the day dissolves into night or before the stillness of night is uninterrupted by the bustle of the day.
O’Doherty is a former recipient of The Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship, as well as being Since graduating from the National Art School in Sydney, She has exhibited regularly at China Heights Gallery, Sydney and Edwina Corlette Gallery, Brisbane. She was the recipient of the prestigious Brett Whiteley Traveling Art Scholarship in 2016, resulting in a three month residency at the Cite Des Arts International in Paris in 2017. O’Doherty was a finalist in the Mosman Art Prize and highly commended recipient for the Pro Hart Outback Prize. She exhibits regularly in Sydney, Brisbane and Wellington, NZ, and has collaborated with Australian fashion labels Holiday and Worn. She has been featured in numerous publications including Artist Profile, the Art Gallery of NSW magazine Look and Grass Fires Magazine.
