20.04.19 Room 13 - The Slow - Max Berry

An exhibition of new works by Max Berry, Vessel 20.04.19, presents an enquiry into the everyday. Ordinary subject matter is presented in simple compositions in an effort to capture a single still moment, a temporary bridge between the inside and out, that can trigger a shift in perception. Berry’s paintings are a product of process, a synthesis of experience arising from a devoted studio practice and a genuine exploration of surroundings. Melancholic interiors, personal objects and gentle landscapes work together to present a chance for a momentary encounter. Asking what does it mean to be a modern person in a modern world?

Max Berry (b.1987) has shown in Sydney and internationally and undertaken numerous residencies across Australia and Europe. In 2018 he was shortlisted for the prestigious William Fletcher Scholarship. In 2015, he was selected as a finalist in the Art Gallery of NSW Wynne landscape prize and in 2018. Notable group exhibitions include Serving the People 2018, Milk Studio, New York and Salon Des Refuse 2018, S H Ervin Gallery, Sydney.

This is Max Berry’s sixth exhibition with China Heights gallery and the first exhibition at The Slow.
