Will Lynes

CATALOGUE

'Uniformly Random' is Will Lynes latest body of work, and a progression from past text-based works.

Although recognised as a world-class sign writer, this exhibition draws focus to the materials and varied techniques, instead of literal text-based messaging and signage.

Lynes is interested in exploring random encounters between industrial and natural materials. Highly trained in traditional glass gilding/signwriting techniques, it is that captivating place between pattern formation and mark-making, in these two opposing worlds, that has become fertile ground for Lynes to further develop his material state of mind.

Ultimately his work is based around the exploration of shifts in physiology and the influence of his external environment. There is an internal dialogue that flips between absolute clarity, awareness, and intuition - and surroundings of discord, and uncertainty in an ever-changing world.

He draws parallels from his physical environment... streetscapes, architecture, & nature. There is an innate beauty in seeing these two opposite states co-exist and work together. An organised tension, that is so engaging and moving in a way that defines his whole.
