'Don't touch the art' is a body of work where the relationship to a space and how we interact within that space is explored. Throughout the works you see different scenes, some seemingly quite normal, where others express absurdities. These ideas were formed by stories heard by friends and strangers about scenes they have themselves witnessed inside galleries and art openings.
Galleries are bound by rules of respect for the artists and guests, but not always are these rules/guidelines followed. Williams used ‘Don’t touch the art’ as a way of highlighting these differences in a somewhat absurd, yet comedic way.
Poppy Williams is a Sydney based print artist, specialising in lino-cut and textile design. This is her third exhibition with China Heights.
