To My Flowers continues Bryce Anderson’s fascination with flora and the still life motif.
Examining with an acute directness, the subjects are cropped and cut, often exchanging a sense of place or narrative for an expansive field of colour. The subject is reduced to that of a symbol or icon and is cut and pasted almost to the point of pattern.
The flower is suspended between soil and vase - intending to be touched, admired and questioned through the concentrated and diverse complexity of a singular and timeless subject.
This is the second solo exhibition by Anderson, with China Heights.
To My Flowers
How do you know what to say?
Your ability to mourn and celebrate simultaneously is a power far greater than the matter you are created from.
Each one of us holds something different with your presence.
My gift to you is for you to give to others.
I know you didn’t just come here to die.
