Kata Komlos & Poppy Williams

STOCKROOM

LINES reignites the excitement for the art of printmaking; a century old medium that requires time, dedication and skill to master - values that seem somewhat forgotten.

LINES showcases the work of Kata Komlos and Poppy Williams, and demonstrates their deep-seated respect for printmaking developed through intimate engagement with the medium. The exhibition explores the tumultuous relationship between skill and the desire to create that most young artist’s face. The work of both Komlos and Williams illustrates an abstract expression of lines and forms where cohesion can be found in the absurdity of each image. The works exhibited in LINES crossover many printmaking mediums and will present the unique relationship each artist has with printmaking as a whole.

Kata Komlos is a young Sydney based artist working and studying in the fields of printmaking, film photography with and painting. Her works aim to explore and manipulate the rules of each medium, often finding ways to create new images from methods that are considered somewhat destructive and impatient. Her works are a sincere expression of her own experiences which finds itself being whimsical and cute as well as sometimes dark, gross and humorous. Although her works are constantly evolving, the underlining ideas of honesty and experimentation are always at the forefront of each piece, allowing a practice that is multi-disciplinary and above all, fun.

Poppy Williams is a Sydney based artist, who predominately works with lino printing, and has recently screen printing. Printing on paper has been a recent change for Williams, as she mainly works with fabric. Her mother has played a large part in this, introducing and influencing Williams throughout her life with her own practice of printing. Williams works are always evolving and changing, with only a limited print run & continual progression of the work. The world is a complete maze whether or not you think life is going in a straight line for you. This is what the work in LINES aims to express.
